HOME SCIENCE BRIDGE COURSE 2024

On 11th, 12th and 17th of July 2024, a Three-day bridge course was organized by the PG department of Home Science to the newly joined first semester B Sc Family and Community Science students in order to develop a deep understanding of the expectations of their new academic level and to make a smooth transition into it. On 11th July 2024, the Bridge course started with an ice breaking session by Mr Noushadali PK, Assistant Professor & Head, Department of Arabic. He also introduced the foundation courses offered under the Arabic department. Dr. Annie Ninan, Associate Professor & Head, Department of Home Science, spoke on ‘Home Science Profile’, addressing the overall structure, PSOs, the various major courses in Home Science and their outcomes. Dr. Fousi K, Associate Professor and Head, Dept. of Zoology, and Dr P Jyothi, Associate Professor and Head, Dept. of Chemistry, gave an overview of the minors offered in their respective departments and explained the role of those minors in shaping and strengthening their chosen major. Later, Dr V Hikmathulla, Assistant Professor & Head, Department of Malayalam, narrated on the foundation courses in Malayalam.

On the second day, 12th July 2024, the session started with the ‘Scope and Career Opportunities’, delivered by the FYUGP Faculty Advisor, Dr Fatimathu Zuhara NV, Assistant Professor of Home Science. An orientation on ‘Student Support Services’ was provided to the students by their class tutor, Ms. Bushaira V, Assistant Professor (Adhoc), Dept. of Home Science. Ms. M K Vineetha, Assistant Professor of English delivered a session on ‘Transferable Skills’, motivating the students to identify their passion, aim higher aspirations and equip themselves with the skills to achieve them. Lt. Loosiya K P, NCC Associate Officer & Assistant Professor (Adhoc) of Home Science showcased an outline of the co-curricular activities in the college and inspired them to actively participate in all the events carried out in the campus. The second day ended with an overview of Minors in Psychology by Ms. Fathima Sherin K, Assistant Professor (Adhoc) & Head, Dept. of Psychology.

During the third day, 17th July, 2024, Ms Shahla K, Assistant Professor (Adhoc) of Home Science, elaborated on ‘Skill Development through Home Science’. Later, Ms. Bushaira V, Assistant Professor (Adhoc) of Home Science took the students to walk through the campus, introducing the labs and other vital parts of the campus to them. The bridge course ended with the cultural activities and feedback of the students, as a part of the valedictory session. Thus, the bridge course helped the students to get an overview of the majors, foundation courses and supporting minors available for their programme, along with their requirements. It also familiarized the students about the facilities, services and other activities inside the campus, thereby boosting their confidence to pursue the programme successfully.
