21 students of final year MA English of the PG and Research Department of English participated in the two day National seminar on “Narratives on Environment ” held on 25th and 26th September at Govt college Malappuram, which explored the intersection of literature, cultural studies, and environmental discourse, focusing on the emerging fields of Blue Humanities and Climate Fiction (Cli-Fi).
Commencing with an inaugural address by P.Surendran, scholars, writers, and environmentalists discussed how these frameworks can deepen our understanding of the ocean’s ecological, cultural, and imaginative significance. Besides addressing climate change through speculative storytelling, the seminar explored literary and artistic representations of oceans, drawing attention to how these narratives shape our awareness of marine life, pollution, and ocean conservation.
The speakers emphasized how Cli-Fi can make the abstract science of climate change more relatable, highlighting the importance of interdisciplinary approaches for a more holistic understanding of the universe.
