Awareness session on ‘Reproductive Health for Young Women’
The NSS 171 & 008 units of KAHM Unity Women’s College, Manjeri, organized an awareness session on ‘Reproductive Health for Young Women’ on 24th July 2024. The session was led by Dr. Aswathy Kumaran, a senior consultant, Repriductive Medicine, Fertility & IVF from Aster MIMS, Kottakkal. The event aimed to educate young women on crucial aspects of reproductive health, emphasizing the importance of understanding one’s body and the available healthcare options. The session attracted a large number of participants, reflecting the growing awareness and interest in women’s health issues among the student community. The session was inaugurated by Prof. Muhammed Basheer Ummathur, Principal, KAHM Unity Women’s College, Manjeri. Dr. Aswathy Kumaran commenced the session with an in-depth discussion on menstrual health, including menstrual hygiene practices and the management of common menstrual disorders. She highlighted the importance of regular gynecological check-ups and the need for open conversations about menstrual health to break the associated stigmas. The discussion also covered various contraception options, providing comprehensive information on their benefits, potential side effects, and suitability based on individual needs. This part of the session aimed to empower young women with the knowledge to make informed decisions about their reproductive health. The session concluded with a focus on fertility awareness and the impact of lifestyle choices on reproductive health. Dr. Kumaran addressed common myths and misconceptions related to fertility and provided evidence-based information on maintaining reproductive health through a balanced diet, regular exercise, and stress management. An interactive question-and-answer segment followed, where participants could seek personalized advice and clarification on their concerns. The workshop was well-received, with participants expressing gratitude for the valuable insights gained and emphasizing the need for more such informative sessions in the future.
