The Postgraduate Department of Home Science, in collaboration with Aster Mother Hospital, Areacode, organized a Basic Life Support (BLS) Certificate course for 5th semester UG and I and II PG students. The course aimed to equip participants with essential life-saving skills and knowledge in emergency situations. The practical session of the certificate course was conducted for two days on October 26th and 27th, 2023. The major objectives of the BLS certificate course were to provide participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to respond effectively in emergencies, to teach participants how to recognize life-threatening situations and initiate immediate action, to familiarize participants with basic life support techniques, such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs), to enable participants to handle choking incidents, respiratory distress, and unconsciousness effectively. The training program followed an interactive and hands-on approach to facilitate effective learning. It included a combination of theoretical lectures, practical demonstrations, and simulated emergency scenarios. Experienced trainers from Aster Mother Hospital were invited to conduct the sessions, ensuring that participants received expert guidance throughout the course. The training was conducted by the Emergency Department of the Aster Mother Hospital. Mr. Salman Ul Farisin was the chief instructor. He gave the basic instructions of BLS. At the end of the session Mr. Naseer, CEO of Aster Mother Hospital joined, shared his experiences, and encouraged students to do BLS in need. The class was useful and very informative for all the students. Mrs. A.S. Anitha Begum (Associate Professor and Head, Dept. of Home Science) and Ms. Aysha Farha (3rd Sem MSc Home Science-Nutrition & Dietetics) were the faculty and student coordinators, respectively.
