Community Outreach Program (Papier)

The Department of Chemistry organized a community outreach program at Nazrath School, Manjeri, on the 6th of March 2023, with the aim of extending the department’s best practices to the school level. The primary focus of this initiative was on “papier,” the collection of waste papers into boxes, as part of an environmentally conscious effort. The program commenced with an introductory session led by Dr. Deepa K, wherein the importance of waste paper management and recycling was emphasized. Dr. Deepa elaborated on the detrimental effects of improper waste disposal on the environment and encouraged students to take proactive steps in waste management. Following the introductory session, students were actively engaged in the papier initiative. Under the guidance of Ms. Omniya UMMer, the student coordinator, designated boxes were provided for the collection of waste papers throughout the school premises. This activity aimed to encourage students to develop a habit of segregating waste paper from other types of waste, thus promoting responsible waste management practices. The papier initiative not only focused on waste collection but also aimed to instill a sense of environmental responsibility and sustainability among the students. By actively participating in the collection process, students were empowered to contribute towards a cleaner and greener environment. Ms. Omniya Ummer served as the student coordinator, overseeing the implementation of the program, while Dr. Deepa K acted as the faculty coordinator, providing guidance and support throughout the initiative.
