Extension Activity & Mae Talk – Breast Cancer Awareness & Medical Camp

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is an annual observance held in the month of October. As a part of it, the PG department of Home Science, in collaboration with Aster Mother Hospital, Areekode conducted a cancer awareness programme on 19th October 2022 in the college auditorium to raise awareness on breast cancer among the students, staff and local people. Dr. Shimili Jas, Gynaecologist and Dr Malik, Consultant Oncologist of Aster Mother Hospital, delivered sessions on cancer, its symptoms, diagnosis, prevention and treatment. Ms. Arya, Dietician of Aster Mother Hospital, explained the role of food and other lifestyle factors in cancer prevention. The interaction with the experts helped to clarify the doubts and reaffirm the part of prevention and early detection in fighting cancer.The postgraduate students of the department arranged an exhibition on cancer and its prevention. A medical camp was also held to check the blood sugarand BP of the interested participants. Dr N V Fatimathu Zuhara, Assistant Professor in Home Science and Mrs. Hasna Abdussalam, III semester M.Sc Home Science (Nutrition & Dietetics) were the coordinators of the programme.
