Debating the Impact of Plastic Bag Bans

Trash Talk: Debating the Impact of Plastic Bag Bans The Department of Chemistry, in association with the Chemistry Club, conducted a debate titled “Trash Talk: Debating the Impact of Plastic Bag Bans” on July 8, 2024, in room G203 to commemorate International Plastic Bag Free Day. The event, mediated by Ms. Omniya Umer and coordinated by Dr. Jamsheena, brought together students, faculty, and guests to discuss the various implications of plastic bag bans. Participants debated the environmental benefits, public health improvements, and economic advantages of such bans, while also addressing the economic challenges, consumer convenience issues, and practical implementation concerns. The debate concluded with a recognition of the importance of plastic bag bans for sustainable living, despite the challenges they pose. The organizers expressed their gratitude to all involved and emphasized the need for continued research, innovation, and public education on environmental issues.
