One Day National Seminar on Integrating Technology in Higher Education – 22 January 2019
REPORT OF ONE DAY NATIONAL SEMINAR
IQAC of Korambayil Ahamed Haji Memorial Unity Women’s College, Manjeri and The Council Of Principals’ Of Colleges In Kerala jointly organised a One Day National Seminar On” Integrating Technology In Higher Education” on 22nd January 2019.
The inaugural session began with an invocation followed by the welcome speech delivered by Dr. C. Saidalavi, the college principal. In his welcome address he emphasised the importance of integrating learning by connecting skills and knowledge from multiple sources and experiences. He expressed his deep gratitude to the management and Principals’ Council for the support rendered in conducting the seminar.
Professor P.N. Abdurahman , the former Principal and member, College management, in his presidential address sincerely thanked the Principals’ Council and staff members for hosting the seminar especially in the context of the NAAC accreditation preparation by the college. He also highlighted the value of quality education.
Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, University of Calicut, Dr. Mohammed Basheer highlighted the importance of punctuality among teachers in his inaugural address. He emphasised the need for strengthening teaching and learning activity by the use of technological devices in the process of becoming digital immigrants.
He further touched upon the need for developing a harmonious relation ship between teaching community and students making them good leaders and citizens of the nation.
Dr. Sibichen Vice President, Principals’ Council, highlighted the importance of the seminar as a platform to discuss the role of integrating technology in educational system. He also acknowledged the role of teachers as mentors besides being instructors in creating an ambience in the campus providing freedom to students with control.
College manger Engr. O. Abdul Ali offered his wishes in the success of the seminar and his gratitude to the Principals’ Council.
Dr. A. Biju, President Principals’ Council stressed the importance of the seminar in the current scenario by relating its significance to the new frame work of NAAC accreditation process.
Dr. U Saidalvi , Joint Secretary Principals’ Council expressed his appreciation for hosting the seminar.
Dr. Major Sayed Shahabudeen, Formerly Principal, Islamiah College ,(Autonomous), Vaniyampadi, in his presentation on “Quality Assurance and Sustance in Higher Education” focussed on the role of higher education in the conservation, preservation, dissemination, examination and evaluation of knowledge that would ultimately result in academic enrichment creating centres of knowledge. The role of teachers with regard to inculcating capabilities in students for facing challenges of the world was also highlighted.
Dr. Senthilnathan, Director (FAC), UGC-HRDC, Bharathidasan University, Trichy, in his session on “Enriching learning with digital experiences” focused on the use of ICT as a prominent idea in higher education in reshaping the education system. He further stressed on the importance of the use of digital technology to provide learning experiences like its use for entertainments. The session ended with the familiarisation of web portals to enable online courses and better learning experiences with live demonstrations.
Dr. Annie Ninan, IQAC Coordinator consolidated the deliberations of the seminar and extended the words of appreciation and gratitude.
