POTTAAN KAATHIRIKKUNNA TIME BOMB
The debate on Mullaperiyar dam Decommissioning was held on 08_08_2024 organized by Pg Department of Commerce B. com CA Association, KAHM Unity Women’s College Manjeri to discuss the safety, environmental, social and economic implications of decommissioning the 126-year-old dam from the perspectives of Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The participants in Kerala’s perspective talks about safety concerns, environmental benefits, water management, social benefit etc. In Tamil Nadu perspective the participants talks about water supply, economic concerns, technical challenges, alternative solutions etc. The key finding of the program was in Kerala perspective 80℅ of participants supported decommissioning, citing safety concern and environmental benefits.In Tamilnadu perspective 70℅ of participants oppossed decommissioning, emphasizing water supply and economic concerns.The debate highlited the differing perspectives of Kerala and Tamilnadu on Mullaperiyar dam decommissioning. While Kerala prioritizes safety and environmental concerns Tamil Nadu emphasize water supply and economic needs.
