UniFinCon- National Seminar A national seminar, primarily in the field of Commerce, is conducted to provide opportunities to researchers, academicians, students and other stake holders to exchange views and opinions, address and debate research questions on policy relevant issues and generate academic research output on important social problems. Thus, the PG Department of Commerce organized a national seminar on a policy relevant topic titled ‘Innovations in Financial Markets and Corporate Finance’ on Monday 20th March 2023 in the AC seminar hall. The Chief Guest on the Inaugural function was Dr. Sanesh C, Assistant professor of Commerce, Sri Vyasa NSS College, Wadakkanjeri. During the inaugural address, he acknowledged that the topic of the seminar is highly relevant since financial markets unprecedentedly play a pivotal and sensitive role in building up the edifice of the economic structure of the globe. The keynote address was presented by Adv. Abdurahman Karatt, President, Malappuram Block Panjayath and Lecturer in Law, Unity Women’s College Manjeri. He started with a placid observation that the performance of Indian stock markets will be stellar in key areas including banking, automobiles, real estate and company stocks with strong fundamentals. Mr. TT Abdul Razak, Head of the Department of Commerce, Unity Women’s College Manjeri, presided over the inaugural session and he put forth that the series of banking failures in US is forecasted to be the beginning of another recession worldwide. Er. O. Abdul Ali, Manager of the college, showered all the praises for the success of the event. There were three resource persons from reputed institutions and the seminar was held in two sessions. In the first technical session on ‘Techniques of Stock Market Trading’, Dr. Sanesh C, specified that investors globally and particularly at the domestic level are looking forward to investing in the Indian market. Thus the Indian stock market is about to perform well in near future. Mrs. Haseena Jasmine CK, Faculty of the Department of Commerce, Unity Women’s College, presided over the session. Followed by this, delegates presented the papers. The session was chaired by Dr. Aravind J, Faculty of the Department of Commerce, NSS College Manjeri. It was co-chaired by Mr. TT Abdul Razak and Dr. Febina. K. A total of 15 papers were presented by the participants. The paper presenters included scholars and students from different institutions from Kerala and from Tamilnadu. In the second technical session, Dr Chellasamy, Dean and Faculty of Commerce, Bhartiyar Univesity, Coimbatore was the resource person. He began by referring to the fundamental paradigm shift in the financial sector all over the world- a shift which characterizes the rule of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The following are a few thoughts worth pondering on presented by the speaker: AI helps the financial sector streamline and optimize processes ranging from credit decisions to quantitative trading and financial risk management. The market value of AI in finance across the globe was estimated as $9.45 billion in 2021 and is expected to grow 16.5 percent by 2030. Fathima Shajitha TK, Faculty of the Department of Commerce, Unity Women’s College, presided over the session. Eventually, in the valedictory session, Mr. TT Abdul Razak and Fathima Shajitha TK, gave away the certificates to the participants. Dr. Febina. K proposed the vote of thanks. A total of 150 delegates attended the seminar. Of this, 50 delegates were from outside. The seminar provided a forum to showcase the cutting-edge research in the area of financial markets and corporate finance.
