World Breast Feeding Week

World Breast Feeding Week is an annual celebration which is held every year from 1st to 7th August. The PG department of Home Science organized a seminar in connection with the World Breast Feeding Week 2024. The event aimed to promote the importance of breast feeding and create awareness about the benefits of breast feeding. The session commenced with the warm welcome address by Dr Annie Ninan, Head of the department and Co-ordinator of the programme. Dr. Arjun Karun, Consultant Paediatrician and Neonatologist, Malabar Hospital, Manjeri, inaugurated and delivered an informative talk on the importance of breast feeding highlighting its numerous benefits for both the baby and the mother. The speaker emphasized the early initiation of breast feeding, exclusive breastfeeding for six months, continuing breastfeeding till 2 years, avoiding formula feeds and its disadvantages, positioning and attachment,cues of breastfeeding and storage of breast milk. He concluded by emphasising the importance of creating a supportive environment for breastfeeding mothers and encouraging them to overcome challenges and continue breastfeeding. The talk was followed by a question and answer session. An exhibition titled “Celebrating Breast Feeding: A Journey of Love, was also organised to promote awareness, support and empower breastfeeding mothers.The event showcased informative posters of mothers breast feeding their babies, advantages of breastfeeding for baby and mothers and lactogogue foods to increase milk supply. The event concluded with the vote of thanks by Ms.Farsina Sheril, the student coordinator.
