Department of Malayalam

Started functioning from the beginning of the College. That is 1991 Dec 18th. It is one of the Departments of the College which is enthusiastic participating all the career and non career programmer of the College.

Department at a glance:

The notable achievement of the year 2016-17 was the enactment of C. J. Thomas‟ experimental play„CRIME 27 IN 1128‟. Students from various departments breathed life into the text under the directorship of Mr. G.C.Karakkal, one of the prominent dramatists and social activists, on 3rd August 2016.The drama was an adaptation of the play of the same name taken from the syllabus of 3rd semester BA BSC during the academic year 2014-2017.

Released C.D. Of the play on 22nd September 2017 at Govt. College,Malappuram by Dr.N. Rajan. The C.D.Was distributed to numerous colleges as a supporting study material for 3rd semester Language courses.

Broadcasted 3 ‘Subhashitham’ Programmes of 5minutes each in All India Radio,Manjeri on 15th, 16th, & 17th November 2018.

UGC Sponsored National Seminar “Education in Mother tongue: Scope and significance” jointly conducted by English & Malayalam Departments on 28th, 29th, 30th July 2015.

Conducted an intercollegiate mappilappattu competition on 16.02.2022,and published a manuscript magazines named nellikka (2021-22).

Our students published articles in online magazine named mukham.

Our Retired, Asso. Professor and HoD of Malayalam, Dr.RADHA PI Was member of various  academic bodies of university of Calicut and other colleges.Chairman of UG Centralised university valuation Camps for the years 2013-15,Member,Board of Studies,Malayalam UG Board ,Calicut University 2013-15 and,MES Mampad College[Autonomous].Resource Person for study material preparation for BA Malayalam under Choice Based Credit and Semester System which has been introduced to School of Distance Education w.e.f 2011admission,.Member,Board of Examiners for the evaluation of PhD Preliminary/Final Qualifying Examinations Examiner for the PhD Thesis valuation of Kannur University.Research Guide in the Regional Centre, Vallathol Vidyapeetham,Sukapuram of Dravidian University,Kuppam from 2007 to 2010.Question paper setter in Autonoumous colleges :MESMampad,FarookCollege,&ChristCollege,Irinjalakkuda.subject expert for the selection of Guest Lecturer of (FDP Vacancy)Malayalam at PSMO College, Thirurangadi. Screening Cum Evaluation Committee as the subject expert for the promotion of teachers under Career Advancement Scheme in Malayalam at Amal College of Advanced Studies, Nilambur. Member of Teaching Staff Selection Committee at M.E.S.Women’s College,,Calicut.

Our HoD Dr.HIKMATHULLA V,also an  active contributer of many academic  and non academic activites.Research Supervisor in Malayalam, SNGS College Pattambi Under the University of Calicut.  Received the Best Book Award of Mahakavi Moyinkutty Vaidyar Mappila Kala Academy for his Work ‘ Mappila Sahithyavum Malayala Bhavanayum'(2017),on 14.05.2023.The Academy worked under Department of Cultural Affairs Government of Kerala. 5 Book ( Authored 2, Edited 3) and Contributed Articles to 13 Books. Worked as Editor of a Children’s Magazine ( Malarvaadi).Prepared 2 Study materials for College and 8 for Private School text books.Published 90 Articles in various Refereed Journals and Popular Magazines.  Presented 6 Papers in International Seminars and 40 papers in National/State   Seminars. Received 4 Awards in Creative Writing .Acted 2 Films and 3Documentaries.

Message From HOD

The objective of studying Malayalam is to increase the interest of the graduate students in their mother tongue and literature and improve their culture

Nurture students’ communication  and creative writing skills.

Familiarize  with administrative terminology and usages.

This way it is possible to mould a generation who are proficient and confident in their mother tongue even while doing different degree courses.
