FYUGP Minor Course in Food History

On August 3rd, 2024, the Department of History, KAHM Unity Women’s College, Manjeri, in collaboration with the Board of Studies in History, University of Calicut, successfully conducted an online workshop on the FYUGP Minor Course in Food History via the Google Meet platform. This workshop was designed to introduce college teachers to the new minor course in Food History.

The workshop commenced with an inaugural address by Pro. Sivadasan P, Chairman, P.G Board of Studies in History, University of Calicut. He highlighted the importance of Food Studies and Food History, drawing examples from Kerala, and emphasized the need to integrate food related subjects into historical studies. The keynote address was delivered by Udayakumar P, Chairman, UG Board of Studies in History, University of Calicut. This was followed by a detailed presentation by Shabeermon M, Assistant Professor, Department of History, Unity Women’s College, Manjeri. He provided a detailed overview of the minor course in Food History through a PowerPoint presentation, covering all five modules in the syllabus and recommending relevant books for teaching various topics.

The workshop opened with a welcome address by Jaseena C, Assistant Professor of History, KAHM Unity Women’s College, and concluded with closing remarks by Dr. Laina P, Associate Professor and UG Board member in History, Providence Women’s College, Kozhikode. This workshop served as a valuable platform for college teachers to explore the new minor course in Food History and its potential for fostering interdisciplinary learning.
