FYUGP – Online Orientation for Teachers on 28-06-24
“The new Four Year UG Programme will pave way for international job opportunities for students and will curb the skill gap for a better academic future”, says Dr. Bindu, Honourable Education Minister of the state. The Minister mentioned the ample opportunities and sources available within the new curriculum as she addressed the college teachers across Kerala State during her online address on June 28, 2024. She gave a general introduction to the programme and added that the four-year programme will focus more on research aptitude of the students enabling them to cater towards further studies on a global platform. The new system will indeed restructure the teacher’s role and as a result teachers will have to shift from monologues to more interactive session with the students. Though challenging, the new scheme will definitely inspire students for self-learning strategies as they can enjoy the added benefit of skill enhancement programme as well. This programme can encourage research aptitude in students from degree level itself. The orientation put an end to the eternal questions on workload as the Minister promised that every permanent teacher’s workload and job space will be protected. The Minister’s talk was followed by two sessions delivered by dignitaries from the reform cell which discussed the technical aspects of the Four-Year Degree Programme. Credit, Course and changes in evaluation methods were also mentioned. The testing assessments included Knowledge, Skill and Aptitude testing for the students. The orientation sessions emphasised that teachers will have a solid autonomy to fix assessment tools and to engage classes in their choice of academic framework. The team also specified the magical step where a student is entitled for inter transfer of colleges and universities thereby promoting student mobility. In a nutshell, the new programme promises complete teacher autonomy and student flexibility which can indeed turn into a historical step towards the educational sphere in Kerala.
