Empowering Women Through Eco-Friendly Entrepreneurship: Paper Bag Manufacturing Unit at KAHM Unity Women’s College

The KAHM Unity Women’s College, Manjeri, has taken a significant step towards fostering economic independence and environmental stewardship among its students through the inauguration of a paper bag manufacturing unit. This initiative, launched under the auspices of the Women’s Cell and Bhoomithrasena Club, aims to equip female students with entrepreneurial skills while addressing the pressing issue of plastic pollution. By producing paper bags, students are not only gaining hands-on experience in sustainable business practices but also contributing to the college’s mission of promoting eco-friendly alternatives to single-use plastics. The inauguration of the paper bag manufacturing unit was a momentous occasion, marked by the participation of the college’s Principal, Prof. Muhammed Basheer Ummathur, and Manager, O. Abdul Ali. During the event, the uniforms for first-year UG students were distributed in paper bags produced by the students themselves, symbolizing the project’s success and its practical application within the college community. This symbolic gesture underscored the unit’s potential to integrate sustainable practices into everyday life while encouraging the students to actively participate in the fight against plastic pollution. Beyond its environmental impact, the paper bag manufacturing unit also serves as an entrepreneurship program for the Women’s Cell and Bhoomithrasena Club members. The initiative is designed to promote economic self-sufficiency among women, offering them a source of income while empowering them to think innovatively and sustainably. By engaging in this project, students are learning valuable business and leadership skills, positioning themselves as future leaders in both the environmental and economic spheres. This endeavor not only enhances their academic experience but also prepares them to take on challenges in the broader societal context. The program was coordinated by Suhada, Women Cell coordinator and Dr. Faseela P, Bhoomithrasena Club coordinator, KAHM Unity Women’s College, Manjeri.
