Department of Computer Science

Overview

The Department of Computer Science is established in the academic year 1999-2000. Initially the department offered only B.Sc. Computer Science (Six Semesters) programme. The students enrolment in the fist B.Sc. Computer Science Batch was 14. Now the sanctioned strength is 36. Later in 2016, the department has started M.Sc. Computer Science Programme (Four Semesters) and the sanctioned strength is 12.

The Department had several distinguished visitors, national and international, who gave talks in the Department. This year saw more than five IT experts visiting the Department to give talks and interact with faculty and students. The Department of Computer Science introduced Mentor Mentee System initially this year for Final Year B.Sc. Computer Science.

Faculty members of the Department were involved with organizing different software development orientation programs for second and third year B.Sc. Computer Science students.

And the following faculty members are in a rush to organise four National Level Seminars during the academic year 2022-23 as shown in the grid below:

The department is in the process of working out MoUs with different IT firms for industrial training and real time project works for our final year Computer Science students. The Department offers four Add-on courses exclusively for B.Sc. Computer Science students and five certificate courses for students from other disciplines too, during this academic year,    2022-23, alone.

Message From HOD

The department of Computer Science has been producing professionals for the last two decades and has established a name for itself in the district. They have consistently excelled in the highly competitive industrial environment and in teaching too.

     Our B.Sc, Computer Science Programme aims to equip students with the core competence of developing high-quality software while cultivating the skillset to keep abreast with the latest state-of-the-art technologies. The curriculum remains kindred to industry requirements, with students spending their final year at leading IT firms in and around the district where our college locates. These projects span across the entire spectrum of Computer Science – from Relational Database Management Systems and Computer Networks to Software Engineering, and more recently projects with Python, Django, Bootstrap and Android. During the project, the students get an opportunity to gain experience working closely with an experienced IT experts and apply what they learnt in the classroom.

     The mentor-mentee programme of our department, aims at individual care for each student inculcating creative thinking, especially for software development. In addition to mastering foundational theoretical concepts and practical skills, the focus of this programme is to prepare students to conduct high-quality software, via a minor and major project in their fifth and sixth semesters, respectively.

    The Department is proud to be part of a more than 100 strong-alumni-network, many of whom hold influential positions in the IT Industry and academia, at both, national and international levels. We have been constantly looking forward to have talented students join us and feel the healthy and competitive learning atmosphere we have on campus in the hill!

  • Impart high quality experiential learning to get expertise in modern software tools and to cater to the real time requirements of the IT industry in collaboration with IT firms.
    Offer continuing education courses in the emerging areas for the benefit of stakeholders in the name of Certificate Course.

Vision

To be the front runner in Information Technology education and to foster the students from the department of computer science into globally competent professionals with expertise in software development and ethical values too.

Facilities

The Department is sufficiently equipped with adequate lab facilities. All systems are networked with LAN The fully air-conditioned labs are helpful to the student to work beyond their college working hour. LCD projectors are used in the computer lab for effective teaching.

HIGHLIGHTS OF COMPUTER LAB

  • The computer lab is sufficiently equipped with 60 high configuration HP Commercial Desktop machines having 24-inch IPS Panel Monitor.
  • The computer lab is under surveillance by CCTV camera
  • The computer lab is well equipped with air conditioner and power backup facility
  • College provides 50 Mbps leased-line internet for students and staff to enrich their subject and search skills.
