At KAHM Unity Women’s College, the Department of English regularly serves 120 undergraduate majors and 40 Post-graduate majors. The 10 members of the Department of English, themselves recognized by a combination of excellence and professional drive, foster the accomplishments of our graduate and undergraduate students through their distinctive interests and student-centered, learning-focused teaching. The largest department in the College, the Department of English contributes in essential ways to students’ personal growth, knowledge, and critical thinking abilities. We are committed to innovative teaching, scholarship, and service that promote cultural awareness, diversity, and ethical responsibility through the study of literature and language.

The English Department’s graduates go on to successful careers at all levels, in education, research, professional writing and editing, publishing, business, journalism and business. English has been a part of the curriculum at Unity since the inception of the college. The Department of English, established in 1991, is one of the oldest in the Institution. The beginning of Post Graduate course in English Language and Literature in the year 2000 marked a significant phase in the expansion and development of the Department. Being one of the founding Departments of this college, the English Department has always reflected its scholarly endeavour and unflinching dedication to take the department forward. The faculty members have indeed added to the glory of the Department in multiple ways and have been instrumental in adding more feathers to its crown.
The Department has continuously grown and emerged as a torch bearer in spreading education over the years with a total strength of 10 permanent faculty members. Passing through the thick and thin of changing times, the Department has stood out stretching its wings through novel programmes and collaborative ideas. The Department has specializations in areas such as Phonetics, Post Colonial Writing, Gender Studies, Film Studies and Cultural Studies. Moreover, we do place considerable emphasis on LSRW – Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing skills of the students.
The Department regularly hosts a variety of events including National and International Seminars. The novel programmes of the Department include Author Quest, Dissertation Awards, Student Seminars and Literary Festivals.
